Captain Kirk's most formidable opponents have come in the form of himself, and in fact, from within himself. He has faced his own demons made flesh, and has not only defeated them but accepted them as part of himself.

Not only Soong-type but all androids as portrayed in Star Trek seem to suffer from deep psychological issues.
